Ana Barbi was born and raised in Brazil. Ana’s great interest in other languages and cultures led her to join the Centro Cultural Brasil-España, in her native Curitiba. At Centro Cultural, Ana immersed herself in a variety of language and cultural aspects, and through them she had the opportunity to join the Sociedad Española, where she started to learn Flamenco, a dance she has always admired for its beauty. Seven years passed since she moved to Massachusetts until she could go back to the art she had learned to love when she was introduced in 2011 to Edmy Ortiz, a talented artist and Flamenco instructor. They have performed together in a variety of venues, including the Latin American Festival in 2011. Ana currently works as a trilingual medical interpreter, and is a graduate student at Assumption College, where she is getting her Master’s in Counseling Psychology. Her other interests include cooking, yoga and music.

Testimonial: Flamenco to me is one of the most beautiful forms of art. When I dance I feel completely disconnected from everything else around me, especially because it requires so much concentration and it brings up a lot of emotion. In fact, one of the best ways to describe Flamenco is that it is a beautiful way of showing passion and pain. Such a combination of feelings can only result in something as intense and passionate as Flamenco.
